about the project

Our task was to create a system allowing individual selection of air handling units

VBW Engineering has been operating for many years in the air processing industry, being the most important Polish manufacturer of air conditioning and ventilation equipment for rooms according to individual customer needs. The company's equipment is used in office buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, sports and leisure facilities, banks, production halls, power plants, mines, supermarkets, multi-cinemas, laboratories, public and private swimming pools, creating an optimal internal microclimate everywhere.

A product tailored strictly to expectations, requirements and needs guarantees customer satisfaction - this approach is followed by all activities of VBW Engineering and its technical and commercial advisors in Poland and abroad. Permanent cooperation with research and development centres of the company's specialists is an opportunity to implement new, specialised solutions on the construction market that meet competitive conditions in terms of ideas and quality, while fulfilling economic criteria.

EXSO together with VBW has developed and implemented a system for configuration of air handling units. The system supports design flexibility and an individual approach to each customer with engineering standards in design and technical documentation, and provides effective 3D/2D visualisations of the project.

Process

Creating complex IT systems is not just about programming

step 1
Analytical workshop

We try our best to understand your key needs and share our experience.

step 3
Platform prototype and implementation

We launch a test system as quickly as possible to gather feedback and train users, then configure it, feed it with data and deploy it in a production environment.

step 2
Integration with computing modules

We use advanced algorithms and computational methods, using libraries provided by the client.

step 4
Development of technical documentation of the system

We ensure the possibility of further development of the jointly created solution through documentation of the adopted assumptions and technical solutions.

CHALLENGE

Computational complexity

One of the major challenges that arose in the project was the issue of dynamically determining the dimensions of each section of the device, which translates into the shape and size of the entire control panel. In addition, all dimensional changes must comply with complex rules of correctness and, ultimately, translate into the dimensions of the sections and sheet metal formats used to manufacture these very complex and costly devices.

A change in a single operating parameter, such as the supply air temperature by only 1 degree C, may result in the need to recalculate each of the program functions, which may result in changes to the unit's components, which in turn will result in a change to the overall size of the entire air handling unit.
technology

Solution based on EXSO+ platform

In order to accelerate the project implementation time, ensure the reliability of implemented solutions and reduce their cost, we used ready-made components of the EXSO+ platform and proven technologies.

solutions

From engineers for... engineers

The proposed solution supports the process of configuring the air handling units, from determining the input parameters to selecting the model and component air processing functions. As a result of function selection calculations, the system determines intermediate parameters. The final result is a completely defined air handling unit, which in the form of a 3D model can be seen on the screen, printed or in a DXF file. For such an air handling unit, all output functional parameters are calculated, such as noise, power, weight, price, among others. For the needs of the production department, the following are created: assembly and electrical diagrams, a detailed material specification with exact dimensions of individual profiles and formats, and a list of purchasing components.

EXSO's task was to develop a B2B platform and selection system, where the company's engineers would independently define products, their parameters, rules and formulas. It was assumed that the calculation mechanisms should be fairly freely modifiable, without having to rebuild the entire system. The developed solution makes extensive use of the EXSO+ platform's built-in mechanisms for extensions, parameters, user tables and Groovy scripts, compiled at runtime, as well as dedicated functionality.

Working with the EXSO team, the client's specialists expanded their engineering knowledge with information about data structures and learned the basic principles of writing functions and scripts, becoming the most advanced "programmers" of this unusual solution.
